How to make 3D animations – PacMan video behind the scenes
Hello gaming and animation friends from around the world! Today I want to share with you a few screenshots of what goes on behind the scenes when I produce a video. It’s really hard work making a 3D animation video, so I hope you enjoy the breakdown! Let’s dive right in and see what the fuss is all about.
In this first image you can see where the shapes of the animations come from. I use a program called Maya, which is a Computer Animation and Modelling software developed by Autodesk. I love this program because it’s really versatile and allows me to do everything that I need. Usually I spend a lot of time in the early stages of the animation process, because it shortens the time I spend later on. Let’s see what the next step looks like.
In this second image you can see that the texture has been added to the characters and the environment and landscape. This allows the 3D animation to really start to look a bit alive, and in this process you can also notice that lighting and shadows are starting to show up. Let’s see the next step.
As you can see in this third stage, more texture and colours have been added, along with some more elements, like the eyes on the black Pac Man and the pixelated skin on the yellow Pac Man. (By the way, in case you don’t know me well enough, Pac Man is my FAVOURITE gaming character ever!). Wonder what the 4th stage looks like? Look no further! Here it is 😉
In this fourth stage you can see that almost the result is basically final. I use this stage to animate all the small details of the characters so that they can look as realistic as possible. I find it really fun because I can make any character do what I want them to do! If you want to see the final result, you can check it out HERE! Subscribe to my YouTube channel to stay updated. 🙂
I hope you enjoyed this Behind the scenes breakdown. Let me know in the comment what you think, I love hearing from you. If you liked this breakdown, it would mean the world to me if you shared it with a fellow animation fan, I am sure they would love to read about it!
